Deji Tinubu might have slumped and died, but there are those who believe that there might be more to the death of the Special Adviser on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.

In the early hours of today, Friday, January 26, a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kehinde Bamigbetan, confirmed the death of the dark-complexioned and amiable man.

The statement by Bamigbetan expressed “shock and disbelief’ over the sudden death of Tinubu, adding that he had reached out to his immediate family to commiserate on this huge loss to the family and the citizens of Lagos State.

Partly, the statement is quoted as saying “We are still in shock. All of us at the State Executive Council are in disbelief. He was a good and committed patriot who brought his passion to his job. He was a gentleman who maintained excellent team spirit. We shall miss him,” the statement said.

Further, the statement said that the late soccer fan slumped while playing five aside match with fellow participants at the ongoing retreat of members of the state executive council and permanent secretaries at the Jubilee Chalets, Epe. Doctors and nurses rushed to give him first aid and he was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Epe where he was confirmed dead.”

While an autopsy is yet to be carried out on the deceased, there are those who have frowned at the way Tinubu died. Questions have thus been asked as to why and what could have led to his death at this time. Was he sick, was it an ailment he had been managing, had he eaten something that had reacted while playing football, the questions are ample?

Another angle to Tinubu’s sudden death is the fact  that he was only recently moved to take up his new portfolio as the Special Adviser to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode on Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, and there are those who are of the opinion that his haters might be related to his death.

There is no gain saying that politics is a dirty game and jostling for appointments at times see opposition getting desperate. Is this the case with the late Tinubu?, this is a question a lot of people will want to know especially  as the deceased is known to be a football fan, a game he played for the better part of his life, why then did he just fall down and die?.

Prior to his new appointment, Tinubu was the Special Adviser on Sports and Chairman of the State’s Sports Commission, an appointment he officially took on October 19, 2015, when he was sworn in. The late Tinubu was the son of late Kafaru Tinubu, one of Nigeria’s foremost police officers. He is survived by an aged mother, Bintu Tinubu and wife, Yemisi.
