The 2018 edition of Felabration had several high points.
That it was the 80th posthumous birthday of the late Afrobeat maestro made it a special event.
Attended by tourists from far and wide and graced by some of the best musicians in Nigeria, the event would have been a total success but for Seun Kuti’s role in a harassment saga that saw him slapping a security official working for the organisers of the event.
In the company of some of his friends, Seun Kuti made his way to the VIP lounge at the venue of the event only to be stopped by a security man who didn’t recognise him. Rather than adopt diplomacy, the singer in his usual flippant style threw caution to the wind and assaulted the security man, thereby tainting what would have been an incident free celebration. The incident of Felabration was not the first of seun Kuti’s uncultured behaviours, as he has been involved in a lot of unpalatable dramas in the past.
His period of war with his family before peace eventually reign tells it all. It is indeed important for Seun Kuti to be called to order, but who will tame him?
