Managing the affairs of a financial institution during a storm is a yeoman’s job.
The best bankers in the world would affirm this.
For Yemisi Edun, the Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), there should have been a better time to be called on to manage the affairs of the brand.
Amidst unconfirmed speculations about the Managing Director of the bank, Adam Nuru, Edun was called to take over the mantle of leadership of the financial institution.
Like the seasoned professional she is, the banker par excellence rose to the occasion, confirming the words of Stephen Covey: “I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”
Since assuming her new appointment from being an Executive Director on the board of the bank, Edun has shown her wealth of experience, effectively taking charge of the bank she joined in 2000 as Divisional Head of Internal Audit and Control before rising to the role of Chief Financial Officer.
A woman born prepared for the job at hand; Edun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and a Master’s degree in International Accounting and Finance from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a CFA Charter holder, she is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS); an Associate Member of the Institute of Taxation of Nigeria; a Member of Information Systems Audit and Control, U.S.A; and a Certified Information Systems Auditor.
In this circumstance, the affairs of FCMB couldn’t have been handed to a better person.
