This evidently is what Lola Alakija, onetime Africas richest woman has realised, having fallen off the 2021 Forbes list of Africa’s richest individuals.
In a recently released list of Africa’s richest individuals, published by Forbes Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Group maintained his place as the first on the list.
Dangote led the pack of Africa’s billionaires, according to Forbes 2021 Africa’s billionaires’ ranking.
He sits atop the annual listing for the 10th straight time despite the economic downturn and drags as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Other people on the list are telecommunication giant, Otunba Mike Adenuga of Globacom, Abdul Samad Rabiu of Bua Group.
While Rabiu (#6) owes his remarkable rise in fortune to his BUA Cement PLC shares which doubled in value in the past year to put his networth at $5.5 billion, Globacom telecom boss Mike Adenuga (#5) networth sits at $6.3 billion from $5.7 billion in 2020.
With a networth pegged at $12.1 billion, Aliko Dangote may not be getting off the top of Africa’s rich list anytime soon, at least not in 2021.
A 30% increase in the share price of his Dangote Cement meant his wealth climbed by $2 billion and bettered that of last year.
On her part, former Africa richest woman, Alakija, cant boast of the same fortune as she failed to make the list released by Forbes.
A drop in oil prices also led to a drop in Alakija’s wealth putting her below the $1 billion mark and thus she falls off the list.
