News of the arrest and detention of top socialite and number one fan of Fuji Lord, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, Rafiu Ajibola aka Elele had elicited surprises from friends and associates of the happy-go-lucky man.
In his days as a socialite, Elele never spared any cost to register his presence as a fun loving guy and those, who benefitted from his largesse used to thank their stars for moving close to ‘such a highly favoured man.’
But all these have since gone with the wind as Elele’s secrets as a drug courier got into the public glare and the erstwhile man about town is now cooling his heads in jail as he is being investigated by men of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States of America.
Elele’s friends and associates were said to have made several unsuccessful attempts to get him out of jail shortly after his arrest in November 2012, even a former governor was reported to have attempted to bribe FBI with a whopping N30 Million to get Elele out of detention.
Latest information on the embattled socialite has it that he is now co-operating with FBI on the matter.
Rafiu is said to be singing in jail like a Kenery bird and has started listing the names of his cronies and associates in the illicit trade of drug trafficking.
Our sources hinted that Rafiu has implicated many of his friends in Canada and the dragnets of FBI are being spread to Nigeria, where many of his ‘business partners,’ are residing soon.
Some of those implicated, our sources revealed, include those who have benefitted from his unusual largesse, and who are now being termed as his accomplices as they never queried how he suddenly became so wealthy overnight.
“Rafiu is seriously co-operating with FBI on the matter. He is exposing those behind him in the illicit trade of drug pushing. The guy thought he could buy his way out initially, but he has now realized that there is nothing he could do, so he has decided to reveal the true story and tell the securitymen all he had been doing in secrets,” said our source.
Those close to him and who are privy to what is going on in Rafiu’s detention camp in the US told us that he has been cowed and that he is really in a big mess.
They added that what he is waiting for is prosecution and that his friends have been scouting for a competent lawyer to handle the matter so that he could get a mild judgment in the court of law, when the time comes.
It was also gathered that Elele and his friends are working on a theory that he could be treated like another alleged drug baron and motor dealer, Lanre Shittu, who was let off the hook after co-operating with security agents in Uncle Sam’s country many years back.
Prior to his arrest, Elele had invested heavily in a hotel project on Lagos Island, and his arrest has dealt a fatal blow to the project as he had thought of retiring peacefully into the hotel from where he hoped to build a thriving business since hotel business is really lucrative.
Investigations revealed also that Elele was able to complete the building of his mansion at Sangotedo a couple of years ago. Those appeared to be his known major projects here in Nigeria while we are still digging into what he really acquired while he was in the United States of America and Canada.
On the family front, Elele has a female child in Lagos but Risikat Elegushi, his wife and whose surname Rafiu bears instead of his own surname, Afolabi which is not known to the public, is yet to have a child for him.
The arrest and extradition of Elele has raised serious dust in the social circle while his circle of friends have done a really great job at keeping it closely wrapped from the public before this magazine opened the Pandora box and leaked this much kept secrets.
