Amidst the crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has endorsed his Lagos State counterpart for a second term in office as governor.
Wike endorsed the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Sanwo-Olu, ignoring his party’s candidate, Jide Adeniran.
According to Governor Sanwoolu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Wike’s endorsement came during the ongoing national women’s conference holding in Lagos.
The Rivers State governor’s endorsement comes following his reaction to his party’s BoT resolution regarding the resignation of the party’s national chairman, Senator Iyiocha Ayu.
Wike had criticized the PDP BoT for urging Ayu to make a commitment that he would resign after the 2023 election, adding that if they were unable to ensure that Ayu kept to his earlier promise of resigning if a northerner emerged the party’s presidential candidate, they won’t be able to compel him to resign after the election.
Recall that Adeniran was welcomed into the PDP by Wike and other members of the party.
