Obasanjo Almost Retired Me From Army-Buratai

The outgone Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai, has revealed how he was almost retired from the army by a former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Buratai made the disclosure during his official handover speech to Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, the new Chief of Army Staff at the army headquarters on Thursday, January 28.

Lt-Gen Buratai didn’t go into details of his near retirement experience but said that it occurred 22 years ago when he was a major.

Buratai said: “Former President Olusegun Obasanjo almost retired me 21 years ago when I was a Major. My retirement after 40 years of service is historic, hence, calls for gratitude.”

He stated that his leadership and landmark achievements have transformed the army into a better fighting force, thanking the troops for their dedicated service to the nation and urged them to defend the nation’s democracy.
