Erstwhile governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, has advised the presidential probe panel investigating the suspended Acting Chairman of the EFCC, to get a Remand Order from court to enable it to detain Ibrahim Magu for 28 days.
Fayose said that the order was necessary to enable the panel complete its investigations.
In a thread of tweets posted via his verified Twitter handle on Saturday, July 11, Fayose advised the presidential panel probing Magu to formalise his detention “by obtaining days Remand Order from court to enable completion of investigations”.
He also asked the panel to get temporary and permanent forfeiture of alleged loots linked to him.
“That’s Magu’s style & procedure while in office. He can’t complain now,” the former governor who is also being prosecuted by the EFCC tweeted.
Fayose added that the EFCC lawyer who is reportedly defending Magu, Wahab Shittu, understands the style and should not be complaining. “…Or didn’t he work with Magu to secure court orders to detain people indefinitely and forfeit properties linked to people being investigated?” Fayose asked rhetorically.
Recall that Fayose had earlier alleged that Magu sold recovered assets to his associates and called for a full investigation into what happened to the seized properties under him. He said the probe by the presidential paned into the activities of the EFCC should not only be aimed at removing Magu from office, adding that loots allegedly re-looted under Magu’s watch must be re-recovered.
He said Nigerians must know beneficiaries of the seized properties and how they were sold. Fayose also stated that those holding money and properties in trust for Magu as well as those who must have helped him to launder money must be revealed and brought to book.
Meanwhile, Wahab Shittu, Magu’s counsel pleaded with the presidential investigation committee on Friday, July 10, to grant his client bail. He said Magu needed the bail because the print and electronic media had taken undue advantage of his detention to launch a campaign of calumny against him.
