Celebrities

2018 has been a successful year for some artistes, while others have not really impressed.

We presents artistes who made 2018 Rock for one reason or the other.

2Baba:

Solution

Until he released the single titled ‘Amaka’, 2Baba’s success was based on his last album.

However, like the legend he has been tagged, the musician was able to return with the release of the massively successful single ‘Amaka’.

Amaka featured Peruzzi and is still a hit several months after release.

Kizz Daniel:

Label

Kizz Daniel walked away from his record label G-Worldwide Entertainment in 2017.

In 2018, he literarily found himself and became a man.

Dragged to court by his old label, he metamorphosed from Kiss Daniel to Kizz Daniel and started his own label Flyboy Inc.

On Flyboy Inc, he dropped hit singles such as ‘No Do’ and ‘One Ticket’ before releasing his first personal album, ‘No Bad Songz’.

Peruzzi:

Idi Ok

An average musician, Peruzzi, real name Tobechukwu Victor Okoh, had credit for only a few good singles before his collaboration with 2Baba.

The ‘Amaka’ collaboration however turned his career around, as he became the prince of collaborations.

His rise was further accelerated by the release of a video where an undergraduate of the University of Lagos was seen kissing him while asleep.

Like every intelligent musician would, Peruzzi turned the publicity to his advantage releasing his album, ‘Heartbeat’.

Small Doctor:

Small Doctor

Recently performing at Novare Mall, located on Lekki-Epe Expressway, Small Doctor was a delight to watch, as he advised his audience, making reference to the story of his life.

For a lot of people in the audience, the artiste had succeeded in taking advantage of his poor background.

However, his arrest for illegal possession of fire arms almost changed people’s opinion about him.

Subsequently released with a warning, the artistes turned things around by using the attention of his gun case to promote his ‘Omo Better Concert’.

The concert held days after he was released from detention.

Reekado Banks:

After five years of being a Mavin Record act, Reekado Banks bade farewell to the label.

The Headies 2016 ‘Next Rated’ and 2018 Hip Hop World Revelation winner launched his own label, Banks Music and has since been doing his thing.

Though efforts from his new platform are yeNextt to hit the street, the singer should be able to churn some hits on the bills of Banks Music in the New Year.

Harysong:

For Real

2018 saw Harrysong turning a corner in his music career.

Having become independent from his parent label, Five Star Entertainment, the musician proved he could continue as a solo artiste.

Performing in both sold out and private concerts, Harrysong splashed N95 Million on a bulletproof Mercedes SE350.

Except for a case of depression, the Alterplate artiste had a good year.

Olamide:

OLIC 4

Olamide might have had a successful 2018, with the release of songs such as ‘Owo Shayo’, ‘Motigbana’ and others, but it hasn’t been without controversies.

Reactions concerning a recently released collaboration with Lil Kesh titled ‘Logo Benz’ has added to the controversy.

Known for his controversial lyrics, ‘Logo Benz’ promotes cybercrime and money ritual.

Though the artiste closed 2018 on a high with the successful hosting of OLIC 5, there was no mistaking the fact that his music thrives on negativity.

Davido:

Meet

As far as Nigeria is concerned, Davido is the biggest artiste of the year 2018.

Releasing videos for songs from his album ‘FIA’, the singer bagged several awards including Best International Act in the BET Awards.

Davido also won the ‘Artiste of The Year’ category in the All Africa Music Award which held in Ghana.

Falz:

Suit

2017 was the year for Falz, as he confirmed his place in the music industry.

However, 2018 was the year when he consolidated on his achievements, exploring other opportunities such as the movie industry, and even turning a social crusader with his song titled ‘This Is Nigeria’.

Though tagged controversial, the song, a remake of ‘This Is America’ was an expose of what the country has become.

Founder of the ‘Sweet Boys Association’, Falz definitely has something going for him.

Mr Eazi:

Tracklist

Mr Eazi continued his good run of 2017, as he followed up his debut album ‘Accra To Lagos’ with his sophomore.

Titled ‘Lagos To London’, it is yet another massive success.

However, the artiste’s attitude was brought to question following a faceoff with Bolanle Austen-Peters, boss of Terra Kulture, leading to the cancellation of his highly anticipated show.

Tiwa Savage:

Bow

2018 saw Tiwa Savage becoming the first African woman to win the Best African Act category of the MTV Europe Music Award.

The award came after she had bagged the Headies Award for Best Collaboration category.

She went on to win other awards including AFRIMA’s West Africa’s Best Female Artiste.

Except for receiving knocks following her role in Wizkid’s video titled ‘Fever’, Tiwa Savage couldn’t have asked for more from the year 2018.

Simi:

On track

For X3M artiste, Simi, the year has been of achievement and disappointment.

In 2018, Simi performed her first United Kingdom (UK) concert in London, as she set the stage on fire in London. An attempt at re-enacting the concert in Lagos was however a big failure.

Simi however made it up to her fans by winning the 2018 Future Award for Music.

Duncan Mighty:

Another artiste whose music career literarily rose from the dead was Duncan Mighty.

Duncan Mighty could have been Port Harcourt’s first son, but it was several years back, as an inability to drop a hit saw him turning to Wizkid.

With the song ‘Fake Love’, Duncan Mighty regained fame and became the go to guy for collaborations.

Within a short while, he collaborated with Tiwa Savage, Davido and a couple of artistes, even going on to announce a tour.

Wizkid:

Soar

Wizkid’s finest hours in 2018 mostly involved Tiwa Savage.

Either on or off the stage, there is something always linking them.

At a point, fans almost got tired of seeing them touching each other seductively on stage.

However, the climax of it all was the release of Wizkid’s video titled ‘Fever’.

Considered an average song, the video, which saw Tiwa Savage playing the role of a vixen, generated mixed reactions for the singer.

For many, the intimacy between the two was too real to be meant for only the video.

Burna Boy:

Burna Live

Burna Boy had one of the best years of his music career in 2018.

With songs such as ‘Gbona’ and ‘Ye’, the artistes put a lot of effort into his music this year when compared to 2017.

Unlike last year when he couldn’t cap his year with a concert, Burna Boy finished 2018 on a high, hitting the stage of the Eko Convention Centre, and Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, December 26, for a rendezvous with his fans.
