Arsenal are ready to offer Jack Wilshere a new deal that will keep him at the Emirates for the next five years.

Talks are planned for early in January between the club and Wilshere’s representatives, and it is hoped a new contract can be agreed by the end of the season.

It will tie the England star to Arsenal until 2020 and put him among the club’s top earners with wages of around £150,000 a week.

There will be significant bonuses in the deal which could bolster his salary even further.

Wilshere, who will be 23 in January. is seen as a future captain of the club. He has shown what he can achieve now that he is free of the injuries that have blighted him in recent seasons.

Wilshere was named England’s man of the match in the 3-1 win over Slovenia eight days ago and again excelled in the 3-1 bashing of Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

He has three years left on his current agreement at the end of the season.

But Arsenal are keen to tie him down for the long term, so that he can be the hub of the team for the foreseeable future.

Wilshere had a heart-to-heart talk with manager Arsene Wenger at the start of the season after he was photographed on holiday in Las Vegas smoking.

That came after previous unsavoury incidents outside a nightclub and a row with a taxi driver.

But Wenger believes Wilshere has matured on and off the pitch – and now the club want to extend his career at Arsenal.
