As the 2019 election draws nearer, a faction of the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN), has returned to the parent party.
The faction consisting of state chairmen from Gombe, Zamfara, Jigawa,Taraba, Kaduna, Yobe and a few others reached the accord after a meeting with the party’s national chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Dania.
Speaking after the group unanimously endorsed him to speak on their behalf, the Jigawa state chairman of the ANN, Useni Daudu Zakari said that they had withdrawn their membership of any faction of the party.
According to him, “we have withdrawn our alliegance to any faction of the party. We
have dedicated all of our loyalty to ANN that is Alliance for New Nigeria under the leadership of our able and lovely chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Dania.”
Furthermore, Zakari said that their decision to change their minds and return to the party was not as a result of any gratification, but political reasons.
“I also want to use this opportunity to inform the world that we have nothing in writing, and nobody has given us a single penny to buy our interest. What we did before was done collectively and for political reasons, and it is for the same reason we are doing what we are doing now. Having realised that we were in the wrong side, we decided to return to our mother party.”
While affirming their loyalty to the party, Zakari said they had been misleaded and were sorry, thanking God they realised their mistakes before it went further.
Besieging the party members, he said he hoped every member of the ANN would forgive them.
While receiving Zakari and the other chairmen back into the party, ANN national chairman, Mr. Dania said that he was happy to have them back to the party.

This comes following speculations that the All Progressive Congress (APC), national leader is eyeing the office of Presidency in 2023.

New Twist in Edo Saga as Obaseki pays Oshiomole, Otaru of Auchi Surprise Visit in Celebration of Eid-al-Adha

Funke osibodu

The Governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki appears to have set aside the alleged rift between his administration and his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole when he called on the Iyanmoh residence of the latter in celebration of Eid al Adha.

In his special Sallah message to the Muslim community last week, the governor had enjoined all citizens to eschew bitterness and rancour and work for the development of all of Edo State.

The Governor demonstrated the virtues of the season with his visit to the Party Chairman and his mother, Hajia Aishetu Oshiomole, in spite of the rumoured differences between both men.

During the visit, Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed his delight at the incredible support he received from the Muslim community and reiterated his commitment to the transformation of Edo State and the empowerment of all its people.

In response, the Otaru of Auchi commended the governor for his uncommon leadership and advised him not to succumb to the forces of darkness preaching division in Edo State. He encouraged the Governor to remain prayerful and continue to strive in the interest of the people.

Speaking after the visit, the Special Adviser to the Governor on media and communications, Mr. Crusoe Osagie congratulated the Muslim community and lauded the Governor for his demonstration of exemplary leadership. He suggested that the visit would likely unnerve a tiny fraction of the people of the state.

“The notion that these two men are adversaries is being propagated by morally and financially insolvent people seeking to profit off of the challenges they have been working so hard to foment. You cannot blame such people really. Their talents and abilities are severely limited, so it is in their collective interest to stoke tension and drive division, but I can tell you that they have already failed” he posited.

“It is not in their interests for Edo State to peacefully progress, so they will try to mis-categorise this visit. This is what they’ve always done and it’s their stock in trade”.

“True leaders understand that they represent the people in whose interests they must serve. This is why His Excellency has always said that the resources of the state, are for the people only, and not for a negligible minority and nothing can ever change this” he concluded.

Asked whether this means that a new proclamation of the State House of Assembly will be issued by the Governor in conformity with the directives of the National Assembly, Osagie was unequivocal. “I cannot speak on this matter as it is sub-judice. But I think the whole world knows that the Edo State House of Assembly has already been inaugurated. No person or group of persons or institution other than the judiciary can order a state governor to do anything on a matter that is presently before courts of competent jurisdiction. We are a nation of Laws and by the special grace of God, will all be alive to witness the law run its full course” he concluded.

DG APC GOV Forum To Oshiomole: Don’t Destroy Edo, Kogi Like Zamfara, Rivers

Published

on

DG APC

The Director-General of the Progressive Governors Forum, Salihu Lukman, has lashed out at  the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, and other leaders of the party of failing to discharge their responsibilities, stating that the party chairman must not enforce his inconsiderate of options attitude in the forthcoming Kogi, Edo governorship elections.

In a letter dated August 6 and titled, “APC: Appeal for Reconciliation,” and addressed to Oshiomhole, Lukman queried why superior organs of the party had not been meeting and also questioned the capacity of the former Edo governor to lead the ruling party.

The APC Governors Forum Director-General cited the losses of the party in the just concluded General Elections in some states, the suspension of some key members, and the possibility of defeat in the coming elections in some states.

He said: “We had challenges that deprived our party the opportunity to contest 2019 election in Rivers, stripped our party of electoral victory in Zamfara, engendered highest levels of leadership animosities in Imo, Ogun, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kano, Ondo, Oyo, etc. Today, with Kogi and Edo elections approaching similar leadership animosities are defining the political life of the party in those states.

“My distant observation is that there is hardly any difference between your approach in managing the party and the way Chief Oyegun had managed it during his tenure. Instead, things have really got worse and painfully, it would appear, you are in denial of this reality,” he stated.

The Progressives Governors Forum has as members state governors elected under the platform of the APC.

According to him, the internal wrangling in APC resulted in the suspension of three serving governors (two of them now senators) and two members of National Working Committee (NWC) in the build-up to the 2019 general election.

He disclosed that he had earlier made efforts to draw Oshiomhole’s attention to the growing problems in the party, but said the move was rebuffed.

“Kindly recall that sometime in June this year (2019), I sent what I called a private memo on the issues of reported disciplinary actions against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State by the NWC.

“Of course, the memo noted that before the 2019 elections, the NWC had similarly suspended former Governors Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun of Imo and Ogun states respectively. Between June and now, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, APC Deputy National Chairman, North and Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir, APC Vice National Chairman (North-West) have also been similarly suspended.

“It would appear that the leadership problems facing the party are getting deeper and in the circumstances, the business of building the party will be sacrificed.

“Since emerging as the National Chairman of our party, I have had cause to review decisions and actions you have taken as the National Chairman and often I have difficulty reconciling many of the decisions and actions you took with the leadership standards you upheld.

“It is a painful reality that we have found ourselves in the situation of near stalemate in many states under your leadership. Embarrassingly, our leaders, including your very self, appear to be stubbornly inconsiderate of other options of resolving these challenges.

“If the electoral loss of Oyo, Imo, Zamfara, Adamawa, and Bauchi are not a wakeup call to the dangers that lie ahead, what could have been! Is it that our leaders are indifferent to the possible return of People’s Democratic Party (PDP)?” he queried.

The Progressive Governors Forum DG added: “In all my years of association with you, I never imagine that one day you will be so comfortable as to be indifferent to challenges that could threaten our national democratic development.”
