“Lightning doesn’t strike twice in a particular place” is a popular saying.

However, there appears to be an exception to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

Some critics, over the week wondered why the royal stool of the Ooni of Ife which used to be revered in the past is gradually turning a subject of mockery.

Many would remember how the Ooni was embarrassed by the Olowo of Eko, Oba Rilwan Akiolu at an event which held in Lagos State in 2017.

At the event, Oba Rilwan basically shunned the young monarch who tried to greet him, sparking off reactions.

The same fate recently greeted Oba Ogunwusi again when he was reduced at the coronation of the new Oniru of Iru, Oba Gbolahan Lawal.

Just like he was accorded very little respect by the Lagos monarch, the Ooni received the same treatment from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who brashly acknowledged the revered monarch.
