The University of Ibadan has finally reacted to the controversy surrounding the credentials of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

Quelling speculations of a forged result, the institution presented the Governor’s certificate to the court.

Recall that the Edo State Governor has been embroiled in a certificate scandal after being dragged to the court by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its member, Edobor Williams.

Obaseki opened his defence on Tuesday, January 6, with a senior official of UI, Abayomi Samuel Ajayi who is the Deputy Registrar (legal) in court to present documents, including the original copy of the Bachelor of Arts certificate issued to the governor in 1979.

Ajayi tendered as exhibits before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja relevant pages of UI calendar for 1976 and admission brochure for degrees.

Other exhibits tendered were the award of diplomas and certificates and Obaseki’s application for admission and another one for the collection of his certificate from the university.

The witness also stressed that the Edo State governor gained admission into the institution as a student in 1976 through the direct entry and graduated in 1979.

The case was adjourned till Wednesday, January 6, by Justice Mohammed for further hearing.
