The Federal Government will soon start the trial of 5,000 suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

The suspected insurgents are presently detained in various locations in the country.

This was disclosed by the Director-General of Legal Aid Council Aliyu Abubakar, on Tuesday, February 24.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, Abubakar said the inmates were detained at Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, and Kainji correctional facilities, among others.

According to him, the office of the attorney-general of the federation and national security adviser in collaboration with the theatre command of operation Lafiya Dole would be conducting the trial.

While noting that the suspects were locked up over their alleged involvement in insurgency, Abubakar explained that the Legal Aid Council was mandated to provide defence for the inmates.
