Toke Makinwa has landed herself in big trouble following emerging facts that details about ex-husband Maje Ayida published in her book “On Becoming” were actually false.
Contrary to what Makinwa led people to believe, the duo were legally separated six months into the marriage.
The revelation has since seen the book being tagged an “exaggeration fabrication”.
Presently, leading defamation law firm in the UK, Carter Ruck and Kemi Pinheiro & Co, a leading Nigeria law firm who have taken up Mayida’s case are set to drag Makinwa to court if she does not do the following:
“Withdraw from circulation all copies of the book and take immediate steps to call in all copies of the book already distributed and deliver up same at the place to be agreed upon by our client for destruction”
“Retract or cause to be retracted the said published words and tender an unreserved apology to our client by publishing the said apology in one full page insertion in three national dailies to wit: ThisDay, The Guardian and Punch Newspaper and on all your social media platforms including Instagram, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook”
Further stating that failure to comply with all of the demands will result in the commencement of legal action.
While Makinwa might be able to stop further printing of the book, how she intends to call in all copies of the book already distributed remains a puzzle.
As it is, Makinwa might just have bitten more than she can chew, as a legal battle seems to await her.
