There is palpable tension in the House of Assembly following speculations of a move to impeach Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.

The plan to impeach Lawan is said to be related to his criticism of 17 southern governors for their call to restructure Nigeria.

A member of the House of Representatives, Sergius Ogun, was quoted to have said on Monday, May 17, that the impeachment process against the Senate President has commenced.

According to Ogun, the senators from the south will move against the Senate President soon. The lawmaker argued that Lawan is not fit to occupy the position of Senate President for speaking critically against governors who represent a section of the country.

Ogun accused Lawan of being biased against restructuring. According to him, the Senate President has shown that he cannot chair the amendment of the constitution with a view to restructuring the country.
