The elites of Nigeria’s society are getting set for a mega party which will herald the final farewell of
President-General, Association of Nigerian Market Women and Men, Abibatu Mogaji.

Hajia Mogaji, the mother of erstwhile Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who died in the evening of Saturday, May 15, at the ripe age of 96, was a major influence on all of the Lagos market men and women.

The party, which is anticipated to hold after the Fidau prayer will draw egg heads from all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria, including all the governors of the ACN states, Commissioners, Senators, ex Presidents and captains of industries.

The deceased was buried on Sunday, June 16, at the Ikoyi Vaults and Gardens, Lagos State, after which a prayer session held at the LTV 8, Ikeja, Lagos State.

As it is, socialites are anticipating that the aso ebi for the grand party should hit town any time from now and it is expected to cost party lovers a small fortune.

As part of her achievements Mogaji recently received an honorary Doctorate Degree from the Ahmadu Bello University during its 50th anniversary.

A cross section of people who commented on the death of Mogaji reads thus, and according to Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, the death of the matriarch is a great loss to millions of people.

Aregbesola said Mogaji led a life of substance that is worthy of emulation.
He said, “Mama Abibatu Mogaji was a mother in a million. We commiserate with her children, particularly Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for their great loss.

“We commiserate with the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu; the Mogaji family; the people of Lagos, particularly Femi Okunnu; the party; the government of Lagos; and market men and women in Nigeria and Lagos in particular.

“We pray that God gives them the fortitude to bear the loss and we pray God grants her Aljana Firdaus.”

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, said the death was “a great national and personal loss.” Special Adviser on Media to Fashola, Hakeem Bello, said she was a defender of people’s rights.

He said, “She was one of the pioneer traders who ventured into the capital intensive and risky business of importing consumer goods, thereby breaking the monopoly previously enjoyed by foreign tradesmen. Her business acumen attracted the attention of multi-national enterprises operating in Nigeria, then, which had no option but to register her as a business partner and distributor of their consumer goods in Nigeria.”

The Director, Bureau of Communications and Strategy, Osun State, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, said Mogaji’s death would leave a big vacuum both in politics and commercial sectors of not only Lagos State but Nigeria at large.

Also, the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Gani Taofik, described the deceased as a dogged fighter for justice.

As the count down to the party begins, anxiety is the word in the social scene, as people struggle not to miss the shindig.
