Popular Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has reacted to the comments of Abuja-based cleric, Sheikh Nuru Khalid.

Recall that during one of his sermons, the former Chief Imam at the Apo Central Mosque in Abuja had criticized the Buhari-led government for its poor handling of the insecurity across the country.

In his reaction to Sheik Khalid’s sermon, Sheikh Gumi while speaking to newsmen, described it as “sentiments overriding intellect”.

According to the Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, the Abuja Imam was wrong for trying to discourage Nigerians from participating in the election to vote out bad leaders. He said the Khalid’s action is worse the act of kidnapping.

“It’s a case of sentiments overriding intellect. Calling masses not to vote out incompetent government by massive voting is worse than the few kidnappings and a misplaced judgment,” Gumi said.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Khalid has since been sacked from office on grounds that he is unremorseful for his comments concerning President Buhari and his government which were found ”inciteful”.
