The rehearsal of the inauguration ceremony of Joe Biden as the new President of America has been suspended due to security reasons.

Though the security threat could not be immediately ascertained, there were reports of smoke near the Capitol.

The Washington DC Fire Service also said it had responded to a fire nearby which was now extinguished.

This is coming barely two days before the end of the tenure of President Donald Trump.

The situation has thus seen the Capitol building in Washington DC in lockdown, with security tightened in the area, as thousands of national guard members were deployed.

There are also reports that an alert was circulated to Capitol staff saying that the complex was on lockdown, with no-one being allowed in or out.

The report also had it that all 50 US states and the District of Columbia (DC) are on alert for possible violent protests, ahead of Biden’s inauguration on Wednesday, January 20, saying that the FBI has warned of possible armed marches by pro-Trump supporters.

Recall that the Capitol which is the home to the US Congress was attacked by a pro-Trump mob on Wednesday, January 6, leaving many dead.
