Britain’s longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II of England has died.
The ailing queen who had been battling poor health that saw her barely standing or walking since October 2021, died at the age of 96.
Concern had grown over her health as crowd gathered at the Buckingham Palace residence in London on Thursday, September 7.
On Thursday, the Queen’s doctors placed her on medical supervision, prompting concern from British political and religious leaders, even as her family members rushed to Balmoral, Scotland where the Queen had been vacationing.
The queen reportedly died at her Balmoral home in Scotland, where she was being treated.
Confirming her death, the Royal Family tweeted via their handle: The queen “died peacefully” on Thursday afternoon at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands, royal family officials announced. King Charles, her son, is at Balmoral and will return to London on Friday.
Moments before Thursday’s announcement of the Queen’s demise, notes were passed in the House of Commons to Prime Minister Liz Truss, her ministers and opposition leaders, prompting them to leave the chamber
