Police Arrest Woman Who Absconded With Three Months Old Baby

A 23-year-old woman identified as Itunu Adepoju of Badore Area, Ajah, Lagos State has been arrested by officers of the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly absconding with another woman’s three-day-old female baby.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adewale Osifeso, said preliminary investigation by the police disclosed that the mother of the stolen baby, Monsurat Lateef, 36, of Itamerin Area, Ogbere, Ona Ara LGA, delivered a baby girl on Saturday, July 16 at Mission House, Yahora Faith Mission, Itamerin, Ogbere.

”However on Tuesday 19/07/2022, she proceeded to Abaemu General Hospital, Ona-Ora to initiate immunization proceedings for her daughter from where she met the suspect who approached her as a friendly patient who also soughted Medical intervention.

“Unknown to Monsurat, the suspect had just suffered a stillbirth and had been referred to the same health facility for scan.

“They got chatting and the suspect indicated interest in moving down to Ibadan from Lagos and was in dire need of accomodation. Monsurat Lateef ‘f’ ’36yrs’, driven by empathy decided to oblige the total stranger by assisting her with the House search.

“In furtherance to the above, the complainant decided to invite her(the suspect) over to spend the night because at the time, the House searching had encroached into late evening,” Oyifeso said.

The spokesperson said in what seemed a premeditated action, at about 1: am, the suspect, Itunu Adepoju who had now totally gained the confidence and trust of her host pleaded to use a nearby Point of sales terminal with the three-day-old baby carefully tucked away on her back. The money she intended collecting according to her was sent to her by her fiance for the purpose of completing the rent process.

”The Complainant Monsurat Lateef ‘f’, obliged the suspect before she later realized she had been tricked and that the suspect had absconded with her Child.”
