Police Arrest Officer For Stealing Five AK-47 Riffles

The Nigerian Police has arrested one of its own identified as Shedrack Igwe.

Igwe was arrested in Abia state for allegedly stealing at least five AK-47 rifles from the armoury section of MOPOL Base 28, Umuahia, where he is working.

Igwe, a constable allegedly stole the rifles with the help of others who are yet to be named.

According to reports, he stole the rifles on Tuesday, March 2, and fled to Ebonyi State, his home state, where he was later arrested by a combined team of police officers from Abia and Ebonyi States.

The five AK-47 rifles were recovered from him in his hometown while he was moved to Abia State Police Command for interrogation.

The officer was said to have used the proceeds from the sales of the stolen rifles to buy three new tricycles for commercial purposes.

Meanwhile, the Abia State Police Command’s spokesman declined to comment on the matter. However, it was said to have been confirmed by the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Garba.

Garba said his command only assisted the Abia Command in the arrest and recovery of the rifles, adding that it is the Abia Command that can give a full account of the incident.
