The police have deployed a Special Investigative Team (SIT) to Benue State.

This is in a bid to unravel the mystery behind the assassination attempt on the life of Governor Samuel Ortom.

The special task force led by Abba Kyari was deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammad Adamu with the responsibility of investigating the attempt and bringing those involved to justice.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba on Sunday, March 28, said that the team consists of operatives from the Tactical Investigation Units of the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB).

Those deployed include crack detectives with specialized competencies in crime scene investigation and reconstruction, ballistics, fingerprint analysis, and other core areas of forensics.

Mba said the team is expected to do the following:

Take over and consolidate all on-going investigations into the incident, investigate all angles of the reported attack, and ensure that all persons empirically linked to the incident are apprehended and brought to book.

Recall that the police arrested three Jukun fishermen over the recent attack. The security adviser to Ortom, Paul Hemba, confirmed the arrest of the suspects. Hemba stated the police team found the fishermen close to the scene of the attack and are being investigated.
