In 2017, selected musicians made serious impacts in the music scene. To this end, music lovers have placed them on their watch list for next year. We presents some of them.
Niniola
With her debut album titled: ‘This Is Me’, Niniola announced her arrival into the Nigerian music scene. No doubt she has had a good run with hits such as ‘Sicker’ and ‘Maradona’ from her debut album. 2018 will, however, be the year she confirms her talent, launches an international career or gets tagged a one album failure.
Mayourkun
Considered by many the darling of Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), Mayourkun released some good songs in 2017. ‘Eleko’, ‘Mama’ and several others brought him to limelight, as he took the shine off label mate Dremo.
For many, 2018 is the year Mayourkun gets to really unveil himself as he will seek to drop his debut album.
Dremo
Dremo, another artist on DWM announced his presence in 2017, but lost steam in the latter part of the year.
In 2018, his fans would want to see what he is made of before giving a verdict.
T-Jan
Achivas Entertainment’s act, T-Jan, definitely has a lot to offer. His songs especially ‘Aduke’ have been delighting his fans.
A lovely artist, fans would really want to know if he can sustain the height he got to with the song ‘Aduke’.
B-Red
For B-Red, music has been challenging. The cousin of hit churner Davido has struggled to hit the right path without success.
Collaborations with Davido has not helped his burgeoning career.
In the later part of 2017, B-Red got it right with the song ‘Foh For You’, as he caught the attention of lovers of good music. Is 2018 the year for B-Red, we wait and see.
Tekno
For Tekno, there is much to look out for. The singer has maintained an amazing consistency since he relocated from Abuja to Lagos.
All of the songs released by Tekno have been hits from ‘Pana’ to ‘Samantha’ and indeed several others.
With Ubi Franklin the singer’s label boss quoted saying that most of the songs already released won’t be in Tekno’s debut album, his fans will want to see what the album will have to offer. You can bet that it will be mesmerising for Tekno next year.
Simi
Like Niniola, Simi has proven her abilities with a self-titled album titled: “Simisola”.
With almost all of the songs in the album considered hits, the singer raised her bar a lot higher than many had expected.
For Simi, 2018 will be the year she confirms her place as the queen of Steve Babaeko’s X3M Music.
Junior Boy
A fast rising act, Junior Boy, took the music space with his song titled: ‘Irapada’.
Although 9ice took more shine from the collaboration, it was indeed a hit that paved the way for Junior Boy.
Since releasing ‘Irapada’, he has followed up with other efforts some of which have not gained as much acceptance like his hit with 9ice.
In 2018, more singles will be anticipated from the artiste even as his fans hope he drops his debut album.
Kiss Daniel
Currently swimming in a label and artiste controversy, there is no doubt that Kiss Daniel is a talented act.
His album “New Era” did not only announce and confirm his capabilities, it also made his label a lot of money.
His ability to survive his current challenge and still produce a sophomore album is currently being put to test. 2018 is the year that will confirm this.
YCee
Having released an eight track EP in 2017, YCee is not likely to release an album in 2018 unless his label Tiny Entertainment choose to.
He will, however, release singles that will rock parties. This position is based on his 2017 achievements.
He received praises for his most popular hit ‘Juice’ in 2017. Presently, his spanking collaboration with Falz titled: ‘Something Light’ is enjoying positive reviews.
Jon Ogah
‘Uncle Suru’, a song by talented young artiste Jon Ogah is still enjoying rotation till date.
Featuring Simi and Adekunle Gold, the song tells a lot about the ability of the singer as an artiste.
With no album to his credit, lovers of Jon Ogah’s kind of song would want to hear more from him in 2018.
Johnny Drille
Like Jon Ogah, Johnny Drille has a lot in his lyrical pockets to unveil.
He caught the attention of Don Jazzy and indeed a lot of his fans with the song titled: ‘Wait For Me’. Asides this song, he also has credit for others including ‘Romeo and Juliet’, ‘Love Don’t Lie’, ‘Star All Over’, and ‘My Beautiful Love’ to mention a few. He will definitely make an impact with his alternative music in 2018.
