Details of events leading to the arrest of former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha are emerging.

Recall that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who had been monitoring the politician’s house all day eventually forced their way into his apartment in a bid to ensure his arrest.

Speaking on why the EFCC was arresting the senator, the agency’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwajuren said that the anti-graft agency’s operatives were at the Senator’s home to bring him to stand trial before a federal high court in Abuja for allegedly conspiring with five companies and others to steal N2.9bn in public funds.

Other defendants standing trial in the case include Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Naphtali International Limited, Perfect Finish Multi Projects Limited, Consolid Projects Consulting Limited, Pramif International Limited, and Legend World Concepts Limited.

Okorocha who had earlier refused to be taken away by the operatives, insisting that he will not submit himself to the anti-graft agency without a warrant, was eventually arrested and whisked away at 6:48 pm on Tuesday, May 24.
