The hope of Seun Kuti becoming the first musician from the legendary Kuti family to win the Grammys was dashed on Sunday, February 10.
Nominated in the ‘Best World Music Album’ category, he had hopes of winning the category. However, this failed to happen, as the category was won by South Africa’s ‘Soweto Gospel Choir’.
Congratulating the ‘Soweto Gospel Choir’ for winning the category, excerpts of Seun Kuti’s message posted on social media read: “Big up to Soweto Gospel choir a group that has also inspired me.”
The loss of the category means that the Grammys continues to elude the Kuti family. Recall that Femi Kuti has also severally lost the category having been nominated four different times.
