Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Major General Salihi Magashi (rtd), has insinuated that Nigeria is in a critical situation.

He stated this in the wake of the rising number of terrorist activities, banditry, and abductions across the country.

Magashi made the disclosure at a National Defence and Security Summit organised by the Defence Headquarters on Monday, March 22.

The defence minister is of the opinion that Nigeria’s security challenges require the support and collaboration of both civilians and critical stakeholders in the nation.

He said: “We are in a critical situation that requires the understanding, buy-in, support and collaboration of important stakeholders and key players in this strategic option and national task.

“This is important to minimize distractions and maximize civil support in order to facilitate operational success and mission outcomes.”

Recall that Governor Nyesom Wike had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of playing politics with the issue of insecurity throughout Nigeria.

The Rivers governor claimed that this is why banditry and violence, especially in the north, has come to stay, adding that if the government had fought the menace then, things will not be as bad as they are now.
