Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has revealed that there is hope that Nigeria will have its own COVID-19 vaccine.

According to him, a private university in Osun State is already working on producing the vaccine.

Osinbajo said the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, is on top of the situation, adding that there is hope for Nigeria’s locally produced vaccine.

He disclosed this while representing President Muhammadu Buhari virtually at a forum organised by the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.

A statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande,  said that the VP also lauded Nigerian scientists. He said they are assets that should be nurtured.

He said: “I think the pandemic has truly opened up the immense talents and creativity of Nigerian scientists and engineers and if the current momentum is supported, the next few years could be incredibly exciting.”

Recall that the United Nations earlier listed Nigeria as one of the countries capable of producing the COVID-19 vaccine if supported.
