The Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja has validated the gubernatorial election of Duoye Diri as the governor of Bayelsa State.
The three-man panel who constituted the electoral tribunal gave its verdict on the gubernatorial election on Saturday, August 15.
Recall that Owei Woniwei of the Alliance for Democracy (AC), had dragged the governor to the tribunal in a petition where he claimed that Diri did not win the election held in 2019.
However, in a unanimous judgment, Justice Owodunni-led panel ruled that the petition was lacking in merit, adding that it was also incompetent.
Interestingly, the judgment came barely a month after an appeal filed by Timi Alaibe challenging the legitimacy of Diri’s candidacy as the t flagbearer was dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Delivering its judgment, the tribunal panel said it could not ascertain allegation of forgery of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate and declaration of age levelled against Diri’s deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.
