Today, as Mavin record’s first lady, Tiwa Savage ties the nuptial knot
with her manager, Tunde Balogun popularly known as Tee Billz, the
attention will not be on how colourful the ceremony is, but the fact
that she is being joined in matrimony with a man who is alleged of already being married. Though Tee Billz has publicly denied ever being married to any woman, alleging bloggers of trying to destroy his relationship with his beau, guests at the event will see a tense atmosphere, as the couple especially the bride and her family will be on the lookout for uninvited guests, such as the said estranged spouse, who might seek to give the officiating minister a reason or two, not to join the two.
Savage will not be the first entertainer to enact this kind of scenario. Before now, a colourful drama took place between actress, Mercy Johnson and another woman identified as Lovely Okojie just before the thespian got married on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at Christ Embassy, Oregun, Lagos with a reception at 10 Degrees.
Though today Johnson enjoys a fantasy relationship with her husband, Prince Odianosen Okojie, who plays big in the Oil and Gas sector, it wasn’t always like that.
For those who followed the ugly incidence then, Lovely Okojie sprang from nowhere saying that Mercy was about to scuttle a marriage that had been signed and sealed in Modena, Italy, in 2006. Lovely also said that Okojie had collected her marriage certificate from her when she was in Canada and that they had two beautiful children together, a fact which she backed up with pictures.
The mini-series continued with different reactions such as Mercy’s husband saying the woman was married by his father for him, but out of his wish and that they had long been divorced. At a point, Mercy even called off the marriage before she was persuaded to tie the nuptial knot with the man, who according to her was the only man who could make her happy in a long while. It took a combined team of security personnel from the Nigerian Police, plain clothe officers, Air Force personnel and men of the Secret Security Service (SSS), to ensure that the wedding and reception was hitch free.
Johnson is not the only actress who falls into this category, as only recently Funke Akindele bided her marriage which began in a similarlight, farewell.According to those who know, Akindele dated Kehinde Oloyede for some years before the two parted ways. They however met again and continued their relationship from where they stopped, hanging out in resorts and beach side hotels, before eventually deciding to walk down the aisle together.
Though the marriage ceremony was a classy one, it didn’t last long though, as Mark Zuckerberg’s popular social networking website, Facebook, soon became the point for announcing the irreparable
misunderstanding, which saw the couple part ways.
The biggest criticism that Akindele faced before and after her wedding to Oloyede, was the fact that she married another man’s wife; as thedark-complexioned man, was said to be a serial groom, who was only
separated from his wives when he met the actress.
Another actress who is also in this league is Mercy Aigbe. This actress should officially be the second wife of hotelier Olanrewaju Gentry, the man behind Hotel Laveronique. Her case is quite simple. However, the actress does not acknowledge the existence of any woman in her husband’s life, despite the fact that she relates with the children from her husband’s first marriage.
Aigbe was once quoted as saying that she is the only woman in her husband’s life, putting to rest any speculation that she might have stolen the man from any woman. However, those who are close to her husband are saying that he is onlyseparated from his ex-wife and that he (Gentry), is officially still married to the woman. Amid all theses, one is forced to ask what could be luring these entertainers into the arms of men who have been already taken in the name of “marriage”. One wonder if it is greed to be with a man whowould satisfy their material wants at the snap of the finger or thedesperation to get married at all cost before menopause sets in.
Whatever it is, experience has shown that those who have taking this road have ended up going back to square one.
For Tiwa Savage however, only time will tell
