The Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation has condemned last Friday’s attack on some its supporters and residents in Mosan, Okunola Local council Development Area of Lagos State. Five people were reportedly injured and 10 vehicles belonging to an independent team of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Lagos State, badly damaged.

In a statement released by Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the Director of Media and Communications of the Campaign group, Friday’s senseless attack on the APC members “who had embarked on a peaceful rally and door-to-door campaign by distributing souvenirs to residents” is condemnable.

The release said the attack, which was allegedly perpetrated by thugs working for a senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Candidate (PDP), followed a recent wave of damages of billboards and defacement of posters belonging to the APC governorship candidate and others candidates of the party in the state.

The statement said those cowardly persons should be warned to desist from acts of provocation and impunity, noting that peace-loving APC members and other supporters as well as well-wishers “who are by far in the majority in every Local Government Areas of the state should not be provoked to defend the interest of their candidates by the despicable conduct of those who are afraid of their party’s chances at the polls.

“The Akinwunmi Ambode Campaign Organisation is calling on the candidates of other parties to warn their supporters to henceforth desist from these acts of provocation and brigandage. No amount of defacement of our candidate’s posters and destruction of billboards will change the minds of the majority from voting for continuity in Lagos State. Every APC candidate is committed to issue-based campaigns and orderly rallies. The true test of a party’s popularity is at the polls, not through acts of violence, of which no party has monopoly.”

The statement added that the Police and other law enforcement agencies are urged to put in check violent acts of political thugs that might disrupt the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections and to equally apprehend those behind last Friday’s dastardly act that got two residents of Mosan lying critically wounded in a private hospital.
