Gunmen have invaded Ubani Market Police Station in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.

The men also set the police station on fire.

The attack was reportedly perpetrated by militants suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday, May 9.

According to reports, no life was lost, though police officers working at the station were forced to relocate to a nearby TradeMoore housing estate as insecurity rises in the southeast region.

Since the creation of its security wing Eastern Security Network (ESN), IPOB has been running violence in the southeast, with many security officers losing their lives in the process.

In a related development, the Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Police Command on Friday, May 7, announced that a policeman was killed during a protest by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites in Abuja.

The information was made known to members of the public via a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, ASP Mariam Yusuf.

According to the statement, 49 members of the group were also arrested during the protest and would be arraigned in court soon.
