Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, a former Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Interior has been convicted by a federal high court.
Daniel-Nwobia was convicted over the botched 2014 recruitment exercise in the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
Ruling on the case, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba found Daniel-Nwobia guilty of breaching the Public Procurement Act (PPA) by not ensuring that the approval of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) was obtained in relation to the contract for the recruitment exercise
The former Permanent Secretary was convicted on count four of the charge, which the court noted, carries a maximum jail term of five years without an option of a fine.
Two other defendants in the case, former Interior Minister, Abba Moro (now a serving Senator) and a Director of Finance in the Ministry, Femi Alaiyebami were acquitted and discharged.
Dimgba, however, differed the sentencing of Daniel-Nwoba, who was convicted on only count four, till April 27 and ordered that she remain on the bail earlier granted her, pending sentencing.
