Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has  commiserated with Senator Dino Melaye, over the death of his mother, Comfort.

In a statement released on Friday, May 3, and signed by the governor’s spokesman, Onogwu Muhammed, Bello said he received the news with ‘rude shock’,  describing the loss as heavy on not just the state but the country.

This comes as a shocks as Melaye and Bello have not been in good terms since the governor assumed office in 2016.

“Words are insufficient to condole one on a mother’s death, but I do urge you to take solace in the life that she lived,” the statement read.

Further, the statement said “I have no doubt that mama’s impact and reach will continue to be felt through her offspring.

“On behalf of the great people of Kogi, my family and myself, I offer you our deep condolences,” the statement end.

Meanwhile, the People Democratic Party (PDP), has also condoled with Senator Melaye.

A statement by the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the party was grieved by the loss.

The statement said: “The PDP family is grieved by this sad event, particularly given Deaconess Melaye’s role as a devout Christian and a community leader, who lived as a source of inspiration and nurturing for younger generation of leaders.

“Though we mourn, we take solace in the fact that Deaconess Melaye lived a fulfilled life and bequeathed to our dear nation, as well as our great party, the PDP, a patriot, quintessential democrat and true leader in Senator Melaye.

“The PDP therefore condoles with the Melaye family, the Apostolic Church and the people of Kogi state and prays God to grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
