Nigeria’s financial crime fighting agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of cross-dresser Idris Okuneye popular as Bobrisky.

Bobrisky’s arrest which took place last night Wednesday, April 3, was confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale in a telephone conversation with SaharaReporters on Thursday morning.

Bobrisky was arrested by personnel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State for mutilation of naira notes and not for his lifestyle as a cross-dresser.

“It is true our boys arrested him yesterday evening in Lagos for naira abuse. We don’t have anything to do with his lifestyle (being a cross-dresser). He was suspected of committing an economic crime and that was the reason for his arrest,” Oyewale said.

Bobrisky’s arrest comes barely a day after Nigeria Police Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi was quoted to have said that the force lacked enough evidence to arrest Bobrisky for same-sex activities.

His statement follows calls from the crossdresser’s arrest by social media influencers.

It would be recalled that a few days ago, Solomon Buchi, a self acclaimed life coach took to his X handle to tweet, “Bobrisky must have friends in high places in Nigeria. Probably in the police, judiciary and random politicians, because his confidence to say and do certain things publicly shows that he’s got political assurance.

“Who is Bobrisky’s political godfather in Nigeria?

“Why is the Nigerian government a puppet to Bobrisky?

“If Bobrisky were a poor man, shim would have been prosecuted a long time ago. Who’s covering Bobrisky?
