Where Were You When Afrobeat Was Struggling To Hit Mainstream, Fans Ask Burna Boy

Afrofusion singer, Damini Ogulu, popular as Burna Boy has come under heavy criticism for describing himself as the best musician from Nigeria after Fela.

The singer who also described his colleagues in the music industry as pretentious, also stated that they are quick to condemn him to satisfy themselves, adding that he paved the way and brought Afrobeat genre to the mainstream where it is currently enjoying the western recognition

He made this claim in a series of tweets on Twitter on Wednesday, February 12.

However, reacting to the ‘Ye’ singer, a music pundit where he was between 2010 and 2018.

“Where were you since 2010-2018? I mean where the f**k are you when Afrobeat was struggling to hit the mainstream? The best paved the way for you. You came In when the table has already been set and here you’re claiming the best since Fela,” one of the fans wrote.

Burna Boy, who lost the 2020 Grammy Award for the ‘Best World Music Album’ to Angelique Kidjo, however, defended his career, adding no one paved the way for him.

“Lol. Nobody paved shit for me. Everybody dey find them own. I have been out here, if you knew the way they made us look weak by begging and paying the western world to like us you will see that no table was set and I’m the one that brought you the respect you currently enjoy,”

Wande Coal; 9ice; Kenny Blaq Stun Fans As BLVD Lounge Open In Lekki

Wande Coal was the cynosure of all eyes at the official opening of Billiards Lounge Vape Dance (BLVD) held on Sunday, February 16th  in Lekki, Lagos State.

The former Mo’ Hit star made the event a memorable one with lots of classic songs and good attitudes he dished out to fans from his debut album, M2M.

When the host Kenny Blaq called WC to perform on stage, music buffs thought the ace comedian was joking. Until the one time, Don Jazzy’s admirer mounted the stage in a white Gucci design outfit.

The Black Diamond label singer performed his heart out at the BLVD lounge official opening. He was surrounded and jam-packed with his fans who had not seen him for a long time. He, however, gave a good account of himself.

9ice mounted the stage after Wande Coal. The Street Credibility exponent later called out Jahbless, the director of the lounge, to the stage. Though the celebrant was very shy but sneaked to the scene abruptly. His appearance was welcomed by resounding applause from the crowd.

“I am so proud of you” (Jahbless) 9ice retorted. Many people thought we would not make it in life when we started. I am very happy about your success off and on the entertainment industry. This is the beginning.  Many achievements are still coming your way.  From Ejigbo now to Lekki, people are now seeing the right side of us”, 9ice boasted while holding his longtime friend, Jahbless hands.

9ice pleaded if Jahbless would allow them to perform Ganja, the hit song they recorded together. He instantly accepted and ordered DJ Khoded, who was on the wheel of steel to play the song. It was memorable witnessing both music stars dazzling on stage together after a long time.

9ice later called Lord of Ajasa on stage. Both ignited fans with “Le fenuso,” the hit song they did together years back. Ruggedman joined them on stage. 9ice performed Atewo, his duet song with Ruggedman also. Tony Tetuila, Ice K, also performed different hit songs on the BLVD stage.

Versatile rapper cum singer, Seriki added color to the event alongside, Sexy Steel and Ogidan. They added glam to the already colorful occasion.

The BLVD Lounge has carved a niche for itself and enjoying a growing clientele in the industry. Kudos to the initiatives of the BLVD management by introducing a different angle to the entertainment and fun place to be in Lagos.

Olamide Names Best Song Off ‘999’ EP

Hip hop artiste, Olamide, has picked his favourite jam from the songs on his recently released EP, 999.

Taking to Twitter, Olamide asked fans if he was permitted to have a favourite song on the EP and ended up picking “Dance With The Devil”.

‘Dance With The Devil’ is the fourth song on the EP which also has tracks like ‘No Time’, ‘War Lords’, ‘Billion Talk’, ‘Demons’, ‘Prophesy’ and ‘Mojo’.

Iyanya Reacts To Car Theft Suit

Nigerian singer, Iyanya, has reacted to his car theft suit.

Despite initially keeping mum, stating that the matter was in court, he took to social media to state that Nigerians like bad news.

Iyanya was arraigned at an Igbosere High Court before Justice Okikiolu-Ighile last week, following a car theft allegation brought against him by his former label, The Temple Management Company Limited (TTMCL).

According to the charge sheet, the singer converted to his use or of another person, a Black Toyota Land Cruiser Prado SUV with ‘MAVINIY’ as its plate number.

 Since his arraignment, he has also been promoting his soon-to-be released EP titled “The Rebirth”.

The body of work is expected to be influenced majorly by his experience from changing record labels.

Iyanya, who parted ways with Made Men Music Group (MMMG) in 2016, joined Mavin Record in the same year while signing a management deal with TMC, a platform he also subsequently left.
