Lagosians have reacted with dismay to claims of  inaccessable West  Africa Examination Council (WAEC) result made by Abolaji Dada, one of the Commissioner-nominees of Governor Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

While addressing the 16-man ad-hoc committee set up by the state House of Assembly to screen the nominees, Dada revealed the shocker, eliciting mixed reactions from members of the committee.

A former Executive Secretary, Apapa Local Government, the nominee told the committee that she sat for WASCE in 1984, but claimed that no certificate was issued in the year.

Her words: “I had my WAEC examation in a government school, so I felt it would not be difficult to access it, but I eventually made effort to retrieve my certificate when the need arose but was told that my school’s data was not captured.

“My claim can be verified, 1984 WAEC certificate for my school was not accessible,” she said.

Lagosians have however frowned at the development urging the committee and the Governor Sanwo-Olu to drop her from the list and accomodate more credible nominees.

“We need credible people to run the affiars of the state, not people with phony claims. A lot of us wrote WAEC and JAMB more than once, if she did not get result from her school, she should have written another exam, that is what normal people do,” Olawale Otitoloju told our reporter.

“Indeed, several Nigerian youths struggled to gain addmisson into higher institution of learning after several failed efforts, for Dada to make such an outrageous claim reek of shamelessness. If indeed there is a case like hers, the body would do an official letter or a “To Whom” to clarify the issue. How is she sure that she even passed the exam?,” another person who spoke with us under anonimity quried.

Questions about why she did not write another WAEC since her result was not released continue to trail the nominee, as poser on how she was able to rise to the post of an Executive Secretary in the Lagos state ministry without a certificate also need answering.

Coming at a time when there is a serious controversy surrounding the result of President Mohammadu Buhari and that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad,  Lagos definitely does not need this distraction from Dada.
