Unknown gunmen suspected to be assassin have killed a professor of the University of Ibadan, Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole.
The lecturer was reportedly shot dead at Olororo, Ojoo area of Ibadan on Monday, June 5, 2023.
According to reports, he was returning to his home in Moniya area of Ibadan when the gunmen attacked him.
It was further learnt that the assailants took away Ajewole’s Toyota Corolla car after killing him.
Until his death, Ajewole was a lecturer in the Department of Forest Resources Management of the university.
A staff of the university, who confirmed the incident to The Nation on Tuesday, June 6, said Ajewole was killed around 9:pm.
“It’s true. He was killed last night when he was returning home at Olororo area near Ojoo. The incident happened around 9:pm and they took away his car,” the colleague said.
“He was a pleasant person, humble and easy-going,” he added.
Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Communications, at the university, Joke Akinpelu, who also confirmed the incident on Tuesday, said they are not sure if the assailants are armed robbers or hired assassins.
