There is nothing as bad as a Greek gift; it eventually oozes.

It is either billionaire Captain Hosa Okunbo is not aware of this or he just doesn’t care.

In the past, Okunbo has been mentioned in some alleged controversial business dealings including oil swaps and an oil facilities surveillance contract awarded by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

In recent times, the man has, however, become a recurring decimal as far as cash gifts given to the Nigerian Super Eagles to appreciate their victory against Cameroon in the ongoing African Cup of Nation is concerned.

Appreciating the team for their victory in the round of 16, the brain behind Ocean Marine Solution Limited doled out a whopping $20,000.

Though said to be a mere gift, his detractors have been saying that the gift is to enable Okunbo to identify with the team’s current successes.

Though the man might not be where he used to be financially, having not been ranked in recent years by Forbes Africa among the continent’s top billionaires, this has not reduced him one bit.

Having established himself in the Oil and Gas industry with his 75 percent stake in Forte Oil, he got tired of the game and sought a new playing ground.

The duo of Maurice Iwu, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Abdullahi Babalele, the son-in-law of Atiku Abubakar would agree.

Recently remanded for finance-related issues, they were both stripped of privileges of mingling and associating freely.

While Iwu was in remand for an alleged N1.23bn fraud, Babalele was held for his role in a money laundering case said to be in the tune of $140,000.

Regarded as one of the most powerful women in Nigeria being the Head of Service of the Federation, an alleged N3bn contract scam said to have happened several years ago when she was a Federal Permanent Secretary under the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs is currently haunting Oyo-Ita.
