Social Media: Don’t Say What You Can’t Defend, Police Spokesperson Warns

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi has stated that the force is going after people who make careless and sarcastic comments online.

Adejobi, who stated this in a post on X added that the police will get such people one by one no matter whose ox is gored.

Warning social media users, specifically those who talk sarcastically not to say what they can’t defend, he added that such statements might be criminal.

He also reminded Nigerians of the existence of the Cybercrime Prohibition Act, 2015 which gives the court the jurisdiction to sentence anyone found guilty of making social media comments and claims they cannot defend in court.
