The Senate has suspended Senator Abdul Ningi for three months.
This follows an interview granted by the senator representing Bauchi Central during which he said that the government had padded the 2024 budget by three trillion.
Speaking during the interview, Senator Ningi was quoted by BBC Hausa saying that the government of President Bola Tinubu was operating two budgets.
In a motion moved by Senator Olamilekan Solomon, the house debated the allegation, while also addressing the plea of the motion by Senator Solomon.
In an additional plea, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim pleaded that the house suspend Senator Ningi for 12 months during which he would not be able to express his rights and privileges as a member of the 10th senate.
Senator Ibrahim also asked in his plea that Senator Ningi stay away from the business of the Senate both for plenary and committee works during the period. However, his plea was amended by other senators present in the sitting.
Ruling on the motion, Senator President, Senator Godswill Akpabio who was sitting as Chairman after consulting the Senators ruled that Senator Ningi be suspended for three months.
