The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), met with the leaders of the Senate today.

The meeting which was a closed-door affair was focused on the lingering crisis between the Federal Government and the union on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

President Muhammadu Buhari had during the presentation of the 2021 budget proposal on Thursday, October 8, reiterated that only federal staff captured on the IPPIS platform will receive salaries.

The president of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, reportedly said the meeting with the Senate leadership was to seek their support on a new invention that the union wants as an alternative to IPPIS.

According to him, the union had a meeting with the federal government on the alternative to IPPIS it developed but for five years now, there was no response from the government.

Before the meeting went into a close session, the president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, decried the inability of the federal government to implement the several agreements it signed with the union.
