An impeachment notice has been signed by the lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly for Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

In a session that was presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Martins Amaewhule, and the majority of the lawmakers, the Leader of the House, Hon Edison Ehie, and those loyal to the governor were suspended.

24 out of the 32 lawmakers signed the impeachment letter and have directed the clerk of the house to serve the impeachment notice to the Governor.

This comes after Fubara was quoted saying that the state security operatives have been compromised after they teargassed him and dispersed water at him while on his way to the burnt Rivers state House of Assembly.

Speaking after inspecting the burnt complex, Fubara said the facility was destroyed to “please somebody”, adding that he is ready to die for his state.

The governor asked the lawmakers to come out and tell Rivers State indigenes his offence for the attempted impeachment. He stressed that any attempt to remove him from office that is not justified will be resisted.

There are reports that he and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is his godfather are currently at loggerheads over the governance of the state.
