The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler, has proven that he is a very confident man.

Growing from being an average taxman, Fowler built his profile to an admirable height.

At a point, he was the boss of the Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), before growing to his current position. Today, he is acknowledged as one of the best in Africa, making him very confident.

But there are challenges that unsettle even the most confident of men.

Fowler’s confidence was brought to test recently when he was queried for a shortfall in anticipated federal revenue.  Again, his fortunes nosedived when he was dragged to a Federal High Court sitting in Kano for overstaying his tenure.

Appointed on August 20, 2015, many believe that Fowler’s tenure should end on August 20, 2019. However, Fowler insists his tenure ends on 15 December.

Expected to be summarily removed from office by the court, reprieve came for him with Justice Lewis Allagoa striking out the plea for his removal from office.
