Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release 54 soldiers jailed in 2014, for requesting sophisticated equipment to fight Boko Haram insurgents.

Recall that the soldiers were charged for conspiracy and mutiny by a General Court Martial that sat at the Army Headquarters Garrison in Abuja, and were subsequently sentenced to death by firing squad, with the judgement later converted to 10 years imprisonment.

Ever since, the soldiers have remained in prison until recently when they were granted presidential pardon by the Buhari-led administration. Despite the pardon, they have remained in detention till date.

In a recent meeting with media practitioners, the man of God expressed pity for the soldiers, as he urged President Buhari to use his good office to revisit the issue once again.

Describing the President as a kind-hearted man, Primate Ayodele urged him to take into consideration the beloved wives, children, and parents of the jailed soldiers who are due for freedom, adding that their giant strides in protecting the country should also facilitate their quick release.
