Effiong Akwa, the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been sacked.

Akwa was sacked on Thursday, October 20, by President Muhamadu Buhari.

Recall that he was appointed interim administrator of the commission for the duration of the Forensic Audit into the operations of the NDDC, which has now been concluded.

Akwan’s sack was confirmed in a statement by the Director of Press, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Patricia Deworitshe.

According to the statement, “the President also announced the constitution of a new management team and Governing Board of the NDDC in line with section 5(2) of the NDDC Act, 2000.

“The names of the nominees for the new management team and Governing Board are to be transmitted to the National Assembly for approval,” she added.

Though no reason was given for the removal of the NDDC boss, his sack comes after an alleged plot to siphon N480 billion belonging to commission.

The plot which was revealed via a petition to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions led to the summoning of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Umana Okon Umana.

Umana is expected to appear before the committee on 10th of November, 2022.
