The presidency has reacted to the call for the sack of Abba Kyari, the chief of staff of President Mohammadu Buhari.

In a protest in the presidential villa,  members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aegis of Concerned APC National Stakeholders (CANS), called for the sack of Kyari.

The stakeholders described Kyari as one of the cabals in Buhari’s government. Reacting to the protest, the senior special assistant to the presidential on media and publicity, Garba Shehu, described what happened as “sponsored protest.”

Shehu said: “You are going to see more of such sponsored protests. In one of the hotels here in the federal capital, there is shop that sells packages of protests. “At a given fee, they will write the protest speech, the placards and give you the marchers, men and women as well as the lead speaker who in many cases is a lawyer. So we are not surprised at all. Very soon, reporters and photographers will be buying this service to attack editors they don’t like. “One thing to note is that this president is not the kind that can be swayed by this chicanery. He has a mind of his own and he alone will decide who he will work with and who he will send away. In effect, this demonstration will change nothing.”

Why PDP’s Nationwide Protest Will Fail-Timi Frank

Time Frank

Former All Progressive Congress (APC), Deputy National spokesperson, Timi Frank has rubbished a planned nationwide protest by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), to protest the Supreme Court ruling that sacked former Imo governor, Emeka Ihedioha.

Frank revealed that the action by the opposition party is doomed to fail, adding that it should have happened a long time ago but has now lost significance.

Accusing the PDP governors who indulge in anti-party activities of weakening the opposition party, Frank accused them of secretly seeking goodies from the ruling party.

According to Frank, PDP’s move was too little, too late because the party failed to protest when it mattered most such as when for Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen was removed from office and Supreme Court ruled against the opposition’s candidate Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election appeal.

Frank submitted that PDP’s planned protest is medicine after death, beliving that PDP should have held the nationwide protest a long time ago. “Such action at this time will only fail, ” he said.

To Frank, the opposition party is also bedevilled by anti-party activities among its top executives such as governors.

Apart from Rivers and Benue governors Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom, the outspoken Bayelsa-born politician accused PDP governors of lobbying the presidency for goodies despite being in opposition. He also faulted the Abia state governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who is currently on a trip with President Muhammadu Buhari to London, for making such a move at a time his party needed him the most at home for protest against the Ihedioha ruling.

He accused about 14 of the current PDP governors of working against the party’s interests.

“Apart from the governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike and sometimes, the Benue state governor Samuel Ortom, other PDP governors are PDP by the day and APC by night; they fraternize with the APC thereby rendering PDP incapacitated and unable to function properly and cannot play the role of effective opposition.”

“The elections in Imo were closely monitored, well advertised and everybody in Nigeria followed it through. The results were very clear, the electoral umpire still has the results.

“It is not about Emeka Ihedioha. It is not about Imo State. It is about the future of our country and democracy. It’s about what do we do tomorrow. .. I am calm and we are calm, and that is why you see in Imo, there is calmness.

“The calmness is coming out of shock, it is coming of disbelief. It is coming out of the fact that people are saying, let us still see, can this be possible? We are waiting for answers and I believe there will be answers.

“This is not the time to celebrate. I pity anyone who is celebrating that sad event. If anyone is celebrating, that person is not a student of democracy.”
