Assassination

The director of Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation (EJCO), Samuel Fasua has described the attack on the convoy of the flagbearer of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo State gubernatorial election as an assassination attempt by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fasua stated this in a statement released in Akure, the state capital on Wednesday, September 16.

Recall that the campaign train of Eyitayo Jegede was attacked by suspected thugs in Oba-Akoko, Akoko SouthWest local government area of Ondo State.

Sharing photos of the attack on his Twitter page, Jegede wrote: “This afternoon, our campaign entourage was attacked by APC thugs at the Palace of the Oloba of Oba Akoko in Akoko South West LGA. Shots were fired in a clear attempt at assassination. Some were injured & vehicles destroyed.”

He also accused Governor Akeredolu of destroying the campaign of Jegede, calling President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector-General of police to urgently wade into the issue.

According to him, three vehicles in the convoy of its flagbearer were badly damaged during the attack, with five persons sustaining varying degrees of injuries, even as the flagbearer was held hostage by gun-wading thugs.

The attack comes barely three weeks to the Ondo State gubernatorial election slated for Saturday, October 10th.
