Nigerians have called on the leadership of the House of Representatives to investigate and discipline one of its members, Alex Ifeanyi Mascot Ikwechegh.
Ikwechegh, representing Aba North/South Federal Constituency is accused of assaulting a delivery driver and threatening to make him disappear for refusing to enter his house to deliver a package.
In a video that has gone viral online, the lawmaker was spotted berating the delivery driver for refusing to leave his car to bring the package to him late at night
In the video, Ikwechegh was repeatedly heard asking the delivery man “Do you know who I am?”
He went on to tell the delivery man that he would deal with him without having to call his police orderlies. He also threatened to throw the man into his generator house. Despite pleas from the vendor who Ikwechegh had called on the phone, the lawmaker continued making threats, calling the driver a “stupid and foolish boy” and even saying that he could make him disappear and nothing would happen.
“How can this stupid idiot come to my house and tell me that I’m supposed to come and meet him in his car and pick up the things that I’m buying from you,” the lawmaker is heard asking the vendor on the phone.
Upon insisting on being paid for the delivery which the lawmaker had earlier said that he would not pay for, Ikwechegh slapped him multiple times.
Realising that he was being filmed, he dared the driver to call the Inspector General of Police for him and told the driver to film him very well and was later seen threatening to slap the driver again.
The delivery driver subsequently revealed that the lawmaker had tore his shirt, adding that he was still insisting that he wouldn’t pay for the delivery.
Amidst the viral video and the criticisms that have trailed the lawmaker, Nigerians have now called on the leadership of the House of Representatives to penalize Ikwechegh for acts unbecoming of a Nigerian lawmaker.
