Ahead of the gubernatorial election in Lagos State, slated for Saturday, March 18, Dr. Ope Banwo, Chairman/Convener of Naija Lives Matter, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) committed to better lives for all Nigerians has called on electorates to say no to tribal irredentism.
Dr. Banwo made the charge in a statement released from his base in America, stating that no tribe is superior to any and none wants to take over each other’s territory.
He noted that the truth is that everyone is just looking for what to eat in Lagos, blaming wicked politicians for trying to deceive and scare one tribe into fighting against another by playing the despicable tribal card.
Banwo, a member of the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the recently held presidential election stated that politicians are aware that they get more votes by making one tribe hate another during elections, hence the tribal card being played ahead of the governorship election in the state.
Also, Banwo wondered why Gbolahan Rhodes Vivour, the LP gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State was being tagged an Igbo man even though he could trace his Yoruba heritage to his 10th generation.
Urging Nigerians to be smart, he charged the electorates to vote for their choice, devoid of tribal issues.
“It’s clear these politicians and their followers just want to divide us for their selfish vote-getting purposes.
“Let’s turn this tribal game they are playing against them! Let OBIdients become more emotionally intelligent by seeing their game for what it is.
“Let’s give Yorubas in Lagos their dues and their respect as the indigenes to reassure them that all we want is to get rid of a political dynasty that has choked everyone living in Lagos for 25, so Lagos can be a level playing field for all Lagosians interested in running for office in future,” he noted.
